Unlock efficiencies and enhance sustainability performance

Recently, manufacturers, distributors and retailers have experienced unprecedented demand for products and services. This has created new financial constraints and the need to create more robust, agile and durable supply chains – without additional capital investment. These challenges are compounded by the fact that businesses need to invest in developing their sustainability credentials, with consumers expecting companies to invest in better outcomes for the planet and communities, beyond meeting profitability targets.

By exploring how to share and reuse equipment, also known as pooling, you are well on your way to unlocking efficiencies and enhancing sustainability performance.

Below you will find information on the benefits of partnering with CHEP, the range of reusable packaging solutions available plus access to frequently asked questions on pooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is pooling?

Pooling is a share and reuse model based on the principles of the circular economy, where pallets, containers, crates, and other equipment such as beverage trays are shared and reused within a network of producers, retailers and other receiving locations, transporters, and service centres. When you become part of a pooling network you do not buy or swap the equipment, but you rent them and CHEP supports with platform management.

  • How does CHEP know who should be paying hire for the equipment?

When hire equipment moves through the supply chain, those in the share and reuse model declare the transfer to CHEP. CHEP’s system then transfers the quantity and financial responsibility to the receiver.

  • What are the benefits of sharing and reusing CHEP equipment?

    • You only pay for what you use, while you’re using it.
    • No longer will you need to invest your capital to own your own pallets or other equipment.
    • It eliminates your platform risks, by minimising your exposure to market supply and price fluctuation and supports supply and quality.
    • A rigorous inspection and repair process supports consistent quality.
    • Standards are consistent, with all timber certified as sustainable.
    • CHEP’s scale and network means you have access to  the equipment you need, when and where you need it, no matter what happens to demand.
  • How do I safely stack timber pallets?

Stacking timber pallets correctly can help avoid injuries, clear docks faster, and optimise labour costs.

We’ve compiled some top tips and recommendations for safe and efficient pallet stacking like forming a strong base, grouping pallets by size and type and plus more. Access more information here
